Personal, Social, Health & Economic Education
At Quarry Mount Primary School we see Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) as being at the centre of all that we do. Through our curriculum, our school environment and our school ethos, we promote pupils’ self- esteem & emotional well-being, and help them to form and maintain worthwhile and satisfying relationships based on respect for themselves and for others, at home, at school, at work and in the community.
PSHE is part of a whole school approach and is delivered following a hybrid of the ‘Pol-Ed’ & Islington schemes of work and will be timetabled to take place weekly. In addition to the curriculum, PSHE is further embedded with the following:
- School Council - An annual ballot reveals our elected school councillors. Children learn about how they can contribute to decision-making through the School Council. They meet regularly and feed back to classes
- Rainbow Leaders - Pupils can apply to be a Rainbow Leader & when in role, they act as role models for the school community and are given leadership opportunities
- Assemblies - Our assemblies are often linked to national themes and PSHE objectives
- Special weeks and days are used to enhance the curriculum. For example, Anti-bullying week, Quarry Mount’s Got Talent, Black History month, International Evening and visits from D:Side
- Our School chant fosters a sense of belonging: 'This is our school, this is our home, this is our safe place, all are welcome. Come on Quarry Mount, we are a team, we work together to achieve our dreams'.
